Do we really know what our customer needs?
Unless we identify this from the outset, all other efforts will be fruitless. And once identified, how can we best serve that need and turn a profit? Moreover, how do we cope with ever- shifting market trends, competition and tight deadlines?
As the dust settles, it seems a crowd has gathered in the valley, in front of the General Store in Rattlesnake Canyon. Despite the howling winds on the plains, it is clear the sheriff is passionately addressing the crowd about something of great importance.
When the railway proposes to connect Rattlesnake Canyon to the outside world, everyone — settlers and merchants alike — can sense the commercial potential.
With just four weeks to secure all the materials needed for the track and the workers’ camp, in this simulated, fast-paced and competitive marketplace, you will quickly come to appreciate the power of strategic partnerships and the importance of understanding the customer.
Achieving both amidst fierce competition, shifting customer demands and a dynamic marketplace is no easy feat. You’ll need to draw upon all your expertise in sales, negotiation and communication to succeed.

Successful organisations find a way to elevate their performance. They do this by challenging how quickly they can deliver optimal results — whether measured in profitability, customer focus or efficiency. They are constantly evolving their thinking and their collaboration. They build strong relationships, communicate effectively and act with agility, able to shift focus quickly to seize opportunities.
In Rattlesnake Canyon, the same opportunities exist, the same behaviours are possible — but, as you’ll see, they are not so easily achieved
“We brought together 60 of our most experienced leaders to communicate our new growth ambition.
Having worked previously with Yellowfoot, our CEO introduced them to our organising committee. For some of us, it was still a leap of faith. Would our leaders ‘get involved’? Twenty minutes later, with everyone clearly engaged in buying pigs and everything else the railway needed, we realised our leap had paid off.
Then came the debrief, which tied what happened in the game to the challenges and opportunities ahead — key insights and takeaways, now being embedded into actions to reclaim and win in our own Rattlesnake Canyon. I can’t thank you enough. Let’s do it again — it was fun!”
